PGA Tour Champions player Matt Gogel has been suspended for six months for violating the tour's integrity program by betting on golf events. The suspension began Sunday and will run through Feb. 22, 2027, encompassing all Tour-sanctioned events.
Gogel, 55, stated that he unknowingly placed "small recreational wagers on golf" in 2024 and 2025. He emphasized that these bets were not on tournaments in which he participated. "I would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf," Gogel said in a statement released by the PGA Tour. "I made an honest mistake and I look forward to playing in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions."
The PGA Tour confirmed that Gogel did not bet on any tournaments where he was a competitor but noted that wagering on any PGA-sanctioned event constitutes a violation of the tour's integrity program. The tour also acknowledged Gogel's full cooperation throughout the investigation.
Prior to joining the PGA Tour Champions after turning 50, Gogel had a career that included a lone PGA Tour victory in 2002 at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He also spent time as a golf commentator for The Golf Channel and CBS Sports. This season, Gogel has earned over $760,000 and is currently ranked 20th in the Charles Schwab Cup points race. He most recently finished 30th at the Rogers Charity Classic and tied for second at the ISPS Handa Senior Open.
