Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson is expected to undergo a medical at Wrexham today, with the clubs having agreed on a transfer fee of approximately £8 million. Patterson, 26, is a former England Under-21 international who spent last season on loan at Millwall.
Sunderland is reportedly considering Ipswich's Alex Palmer, valued at around £2 million, as a potential replacement for Patterson. The club is also preparing for defender Arthur Masuaku to finalize his move to Konyaspor in Turkey, following an agreement reached over the weekend. Masuaku joined Sunderland last summer and was on loan at Lens for the latter half of the previous season. Additionally, Belgian club Mechelen has agreed to terms for the signing of defender Leo Hjelde.
Meanwhile, Hull City is actively seeking additional goalkeeping cover due to an arm injury sustained by summer signing Jack Butland. The injury, which occurred in training on Friday, could sideline the goalkeeper for up to 12 weeks, and he is expected to undergo surgery. Butland did not travel with the team for their friendly in Frankfurt.
Hull City's other recent goalkeeping acquisition, Konstantinos Tzolakis, made his debut in the 2-0 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt and is anticipated to start the Premier League opener against Manchester United. Dillon Phillips will provide backup. The club utilized 25 players in the Frankfurt match, including a first appearance for Jens Hjerto-Dahl. Hull's final pre-season friendly is scheduled against French Ligue 1 side Nice.
In other transfer news, Hull City completed the £3 million signing of Swedish international Elliot Stroud from Mjällby. The wing-back, who featured in all four of Sweden's matches at the 2026 World Cup, has signed a four-year contract with an option for a fifth year.
