Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill has publicly criticized France captain Kylian Mbappe following their intense World Cup last-16 match, accusing the striker of ignoring a post-game handshake. The encounter, which France won 1-0 with a late penalty from Mbappe, was marked by what Gill described as "Paraguay's antics," leading to accusations that the South American team played "dirty."

According to reports, incidents during the match included players scuffing the penalty spot, elbowing, and play-acting. Despite the contentious nature of their play, no Paraguayan player received a booking from referee Ilgiz Tantashev during the regulation 90 minutes.

Following the final whistle, Gill extended his hand to Mbappe, but the French forward reportedly did not acknowledge him and continued celebrating with his teammates and fans. Gill reacted by throwing the ball at Mbappe's back, and a further altercation took place in the center circle.

"Kylian Mbappe has p***ed me off," Gill stated after the match. "I stretched my hand to congratulate him, but he ignored me. This is football, if they're not used to this, what can we do? Paraguay is like that, it's a tough team. From the first moment we set out to make ourselves felt on the field, that if the ball gets through, the man doesn't."

Mbappe, speaking about the game, acknowledged the physical nature of the match but highlighted his team's adaptability. "We knew what kind of game we were going to have," he said. "We showed that we were not just a team that knows how to play offensive football. They thought we'd come wearing tuxedos, doing great plays, one-twos and whatnot. It's their way of playing."

Commentators also weighed in on the match's conduct. Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart described the Paraguayan players' behavior as an "absolute disgrace" and expressed astonishment at the lack of bookings. "I would never want to win that way, I would never want to play football that way," Hart said. "But fair play to France, you can see what it means, sometimes you can play beautiful football but when you grind out a result as a team and do it like they did tonight, it's superb."

Micah Richards added that the situation was "embarrassing," suggesting Paraguay did not need to resort to such tactics given their defensive strength.

France is now set to face Morocco in the quarter-finals on Thursday in Boston.
