Orioles Pitcher Shane Baz Hit By 105.1 MPH Line Drive

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Shane Baz was struck in the right elbow by a 105.1 mph line drive on Tuesday night at Citi Field. The incident occurred when New York Mets third baseman Bo Bichette hit an 83 mph knuckle-curveball directly back at Baz, who was unable to continue after his arm went numb.

"It just kind of got me right in the bone, and you know, just kind of just went numb, you know. Really wish I could have stayed in and been able to grind through it, just couldn't really grip the ball," Baz said after the game. He attempted to warm up, but his grip was compromised, and he could not feel his arm.

Baz allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks over four innings. The Orioles ultimately won the game 7-5 in extra innings. Despite the injury scare, the team secured a crucial victory that kept them within three games of the Guardians for the final Wild Card spot in the American League.

Baz, who signed a five-year, $68 million contract with the Orioles in the offseason, has been a durable presence this season, making 30 starts and pitching 173 innings with a 4.11 ERA. He holds a 6-15 record, tying for the most losses in Major League Baseball this season.
