Lando Norris has taken pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix, staging a dramatic comeback with a lap described as "perfect." The British driver's performance in Madrid put him ahead of championship leader Kimi Antonelli by a mere 0.011 seconds. Max Verstappen qualified third, and Lewis Hamilton secured fourth for Ferrari, with George Russell fifth for Mercedes.
Norris expressed surprise and elation at his achievement, calling it one of the best laps of his career. "It was one of those laps where everything came together," Norris stated. "It was just whether my brain allowed me to do it, and in the end it was perfect."
Prior to Norris's decisive run, Hamilton had posted the fastest time in the initial Q3 session, despite a practice crash earlier in the day. This marks Norris's 19th pole position.
The McLaren team, aided by recent upgrades and consistent performance, appears to be gaining momentum. Despite Norris's pole, he remains 96 points behind Antonelli in the world championship standings with 10 races remaining in the season.
