Nick Kyrgios, the former Wimbledon finalist, has been provisionally suspended from professional tennis after testing positive for cocaine. The Australian player revealed the failed drug test on social media.

Kyrgios stated that the positive test occurred in Mallorca in June. "I made a huge mistake and take full responsibility for it," he wrote, acknowledging the positive result. Cocaine is a banned substance under anti-doping regulations, with penalties varying depending on whether it is detected during or outside of competition.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) is handling the case. According to the ITIA, Kyrgios's sample was collected on June 22, and the positive result was confirmed on July 17. This confirmation came after Kyrgios participated in Wimbledon last month, where he and his doubles partner lost in the first round.

A mandatory provisional suspension was imposed on August 4 and has not been appealed by Kyrgios. The 31-year-old player, who was ranked 919th, cited a series of injuries and difficulties in accepting the potential end of his career as contributing factors to his state of mind. "At times I've felt helpless and alone. None of that excuses what I did," he commented.

Kyrgios reached the singles final at Wimbledon in 2022, where he was defeated by Novak Djokovic. He had received a wild card to play doubles at Wimbledon earlier in July.
