NFL defensive back Sam Webb has retired from professional football just days after signing with the New York Giants and playing one preseason game.

The Giants placed Webb on the Reserve/Retired List on Sunday, the day after the team's preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Webb, 28, had joined the Giants on Thursday and participated in only one practice before the game. He played 14 snaps in the preseason matchup.

Webb began his NFL career in 2022 with the Las Vegas Raiders, appearing in 17 games and recording 36 tackles and three pass break-ups. He spent time with the Carolina Panthers in 2023 before rejoining the Raiders in 2024. During his second stint with Las Vegas, he played in 11 games and made one tackle. In 2025, Webb played seven games for the Cleveland Browns, tallying eight tackles and returning a fumble for a touchdown.

He had joined the Giants just five days after being released by the Denver Broncos. The Giants are looking to bolster their secondary, which finished 16th in the league in pass defense in 2025, allowing approximately 214 passing yards per game. The team also signed Greg Newsome II as part of these efforts.
