Newcastle United are reportedly closing in on an agreement with Manchester City for the transfer of midfielder Nico Gonzalez. The 24-year-old is valued at approximately £50 million.
Gonzalez was an unused substitute in Manchester City's recent victory over Bournemouth, with Marc Guehi playing in the midfield role. Sources indicate that a move away from City may now be in the player's best interest.
Newcastle's manager, Matthias Jaissle, is keen to add a midfielder with Premier League experience before the transfer window closes on September 1. This pursuit comes after Manchester City agreed to an £86 million deal with Lille for midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi and are also looking to secure another midfield signing.
Newcastle has also expressed admiration for Tottenham's Archie Gray. However, Gray has featured as captain for Tottenham in pre-season and in their recent 3-0 defeat to Brentford.
