Netflix's broadcast of the 2026 Home Run Derby experienced a notable gaffe when a graphic prematurely declared Jordan Walker the winner, igniting fan speculation that the event was "rigged." The premature announcement occurred during a tense final round between Walker and Philadelphia's hometown favorite, Kyle Schwarber.
Fans took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to voice their suspicions. "MLB is rigged…They leaked that Jordan Walker was the 2026 MLB HR Derby winner," one user posted. The timing of the graphic, during the decisive final moments, fueled these theories, though it was likely an error by the production team.
Walker, who was considered an afterthought entering the 2026 season, has had a breakout year. After a disappointing start to his career following his status as MLB's top prospect, he has hit 22 home runs this season with a .292 batting average and leads the league with 74 RBIs. His performance in the Derby saw him tie for the lead with 13 home runs in the opening round before eliminating Rays star Junior Caminero in the semifinals.
In the finals, Schwarber appeared to be heading for a local victory, hitting 11 home runs in his first 15 swings. However, Walker rallied with a remarkable streak, hitting six consecutive home runs with his final out to secure the win. The graphic, however, appeared before Walker's final surge was complete, leading to fan skepticism.
"MLB script leaked mid home run derby. S–ts so fake man," another fan tweeted, echoing the sentiment that the competition was predetermined.
Beyond the graphic error, some viewers expressed dissatisfaction with Netflix's broadcast, including the decision to have comedian Will Ferrell provide commentary for a portion of the event.
