Naomi Osaka marked her arrival at Wimbledon 2026 with a striking fashion statement, opting for a custom Hana Yagi creation that blended traditional Japanese attire with a cinematic nod. The ensemble, designed to adhere to Wimbledon's strict all-white dress code, featured a wrap silhouette, a wide obi belt, and cascading sheer ruffles.

The Tokyo-based designer crafted the outfit using vintage materials, including traditional Japanese bridal garments known as shiromuku, wedding gowns, and antique kimonos. The fabric was intricately embroidered with motifs of cranes and cherry blossoms, paying homage to Osaka's Japanese heritage.

Osaka's stylist, Marty Harper, highlighted the significance of the choice for Wimbledon, noting that the tournament "is one of the few places in sport where ceremony still feels inseparable from competition." He explained the intention was to "acknowledge that while creating a dialogue with Japanese ceremonial dress."

The tennis player completed her look with pearl and diamond jewelry from Mikimoto, including drop earrings and bangles. Her hair was styled in a bun adorned with white flowers. For her on-court match, Osaka slipped into a sporty white Nike outfit worn underneath the kimono.

Osaka shared details of her outfit on social media, revealing that a key inspiration was Lucy Liu's character from the film "Kill Bill." She captioned a post with "Silly rabbit," referencing a quote associated with the character. Osaka has previously spoken about using fashion as a form of storytelling, stating, "Every walk-out is an opportunity to bring people into my creative world."

This is not the first time Osaka has made a notable fashion statement at a Grand Slam. Her previous appearances have included sequined and ruffled outfits at the French Open and a jellyfish-inspired ensemble at the Australian Open.
