Nairobi, Kenya, has been selected to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, a decision that has reportedly surprised and disappointed insiders, particularly those involved in London's bid.

The selection of Nairobi marks a significant moment, with the championships heading to Africa. However, the choice has drawn attention due to Kenya's ongoing struggles with doping violations within its athletics program. Despite these concerns, the World Athletics Council opted for the Kenyan capital.

Sources indicate that London's bid faced internal challenges, including disputes with West Ham United regarding the use of the London Stadium, which was the centerpiece of the city's proposal. The stadium, a venue that hosted iconic moments during the 2012 London Olympics, including Mo Farah's victories, will not be the stage for the 2029 championships.

Instead, the event is slated to take place at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi. This stadium has previously hosted international sporting events, including a friendly match involving Everton Football Club in 2019.

World Athletics president Lord Coe, who is in the final year of his term, did not have a vote in the decision-making process regarding the host city for the 2029 championships. The outcome has left many involved in the bidding process feeling embarrassed and questioning the decision-making criteria.
