Los Angeles Rams training camp is underway, with reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett addressing the media for the first time since his trade to the team.
"It’s been a joy; I love the culture that they already have in place," Garrett said on July 29. "Many of the different players and coaches that I have been able to start building a relationship with, it’s been a real joy and pleasure, and I just want to help build them."
The Rams acquired Garrett from the Cleveland Browns on June 1 in exchange for defensive end Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round draft pick, a 2028 second-round draft pick, and a 2029 third-round draft pick. The trade also included Garrett's four-year, $160 million contract extension, which he had signed with Cleveland and included a no-trade clause that he waived for the move to Los Angeles.
This acquisition has positioned the Rams as strong championship contenders for the upcoming season. Garrett, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, is coming off a season where he set an NFL single-season sack record with 23 sacks. He spent his first nine professional seasons with the Browns.
The Rams are also in consideration for the potential return of three-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald. Donald, who retired after the 2022 season, has been communicating with the team and was recently seen working out at the Rams' practice facility. Head coach Sean McVay has stated the team will not pressure Donald into a comeback.
Super Bowl LXI is scheduled to be played at SoFi Stadium in February, the same venue where the Rams won their last championship in 2022. The addition of Garrett, and the potential return of Donald, strengthens the Rams' position as they aim to compete for another Super Bowl title at home.
