Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been cleared to return to playing football immediately after his four-year doping ban was significantly reduced. The ban, initially imposed in December 2024 following a failed drug test, has been rescinded by Chelsea and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), allowing the 25-year-old Ukrainian international to resume his career.

Mudryk's last appearance for Chelsea was in November 2024, and he is expected to join the club's pre-season tour. The decision follows updates to WADA's technical documents, which indicate that under current rules, the concentration of meldonium found in Mudryk's sample would not have constituted a failed test. Meldonium is the substance that led to a two-year ban for former tennis star Maria Sharapova in 2016.

"After a long battle, the four-year ban that was imposed on me has been rescinded and I am free to resume my career with immediate effect," Mudryk stated on Instagram. "I am grateful that this process has reached a conclusion, that I have been cleared to return to football and that I can now look forward to my future. This has been the most difficult period of my career."

He maintained his innocence throughout the process, asserting that he never knowingly or intentionally took a banned substance. "My commitment to competing fairly and representing my club and country with professionalism and integrity has always been important to me," he added. Mudryk expressed gratitude to his family, friends, Chelsea FC, his teammates, supporters, and his legal team for their unwavering support.

Chelsea FC acknowledged the resolution, stating, "From the outset, this has been an extremely difficult period for Misha, both professionally and personally, and we are pleased that the matter has now reached a conclusion which allows him to return to football with immediate effect." The club also noted the significance of advancements in scientific reporting standards for more reliable testing.

During his ban, Mudryk continued to train individually, renting a pitch at semi-professional side Uxbridge FC. He had previously urged fans not to give up on him, writing on New Year's, "Please don't give up on me as I do not give up on myself. Can't wait to see you soon."

Mudryk's initial absence from games in 2024 was attributed by the club to illness, before the FA confirmed an "adverse finding in a routine urine test." The club stated its continued support for Mudryk while respecting the anti-doping system and legal process. Chelsea FC is now focused on supporting his reintegration into the squad and helping him return to full fitness and performance on the pitch.
