Louis DiRienzo Jr., the defensive coordinator for Monmouth University's football team, has died unexpectedly at the age of 34. The university announced his passing on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.

Monmouth Director of Athletics Jennifer Sansevero stated that DiRienzo was a "passionate coach, mentor and colleague" who made an "immediate impact" on the program. She added that he was a "kind, genuine person" who built "meaningful relationships."

DiRienzo, a native of Yonkers, New York, joined Monmouth in 2025 as the linebackers coach and defensive run-game coordinator. The team's defense became one of the most improved units in the Coastal Athletic Association during the 2025 season, which saw the team finish with a 9-3 record. He was promoted to defensive coordinator in January 2026.

No cause of death has been publicly disclosed. DiRienzo is survived by his wife, Allie, their twin daughters, Audrina and Giavanna, his parents, Carol and Louis Sr., and his brother, Andrew. His bulldog, Geno, was also mentioned as being significant in his life.
