San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans missed Monday's training camp practice due to a quad strain, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. This latest injury adds to a growing list of concerns for the 49ers, particularly within their receiving corps, which was considered a team strength entering camp.

The severity of Evans' injury and a timeline for his return have not been announced. A quad strain can be a lingering issue, especially for a veteran player entering his 13th NFL season.

Evans was expected to provide the 49ers' offense with a traditional 6-foot-5 "X" receiver, capable of winning contested catches and performing well in the red zone. His size and route-running ability were seen as a potential solution for an offense facing other uncertainties.

Instead, Evans joins several other pass-catchers sidelined by injuries. Ricky Pearsall is out for the season after a setback with a knee injury requiring surgery. Christian Kirk has missed multiple practices with a calf strain, and rookie De’Zhaun Stribling is dealing with hamstring tightness. The team also re-signed Deebo Samuel to a one-year contract amidst these issues. Tight end George Kittle remains on the active/PUP list with an Achilles issue.

The injury bug has also affected other positions. Running back Isaac Guerendo is recovering from a torn pectoral muscle, Jordan James is sidelined indefinitely with fractured ribs, and rookie Kaelon Black missed practice with an adductor injury. These absences led the 49ers to sign veteran running back Khalil Herbert.

On the defensive side, defensive end Mikail Kamara suffered a torn ACL during practice and was waived with an injury designation. In more positive news, defensive tackle C.J. West and defensive end Romello Height returned to practice on Monday.

What was once viewed as a deep receiving group has become another area of significant concern for the 49ers due to the accumulating injuries.
