Michael Zheng will make his U.S. Open debut at Flushing Meadows, a return to a place that required a significant commitment during his childhood. Zheng earned a wild card into the main draw after a successful collegiate career.

His journey to the U.S. Open began years ago when, at age 10, he was selected to train at the Billie Jean King USTA National Tennis Center. To reach the facility, Zheng's mother would pick him up from school in northern New Jersey. He would then travel to Manhattan's Port Authority Bus Terminal before boarding the 7 train for a commute that lasted roughly two hours and covered approximately 40 miles.

Zheng went on to become an NCAA champion and a star player for Columbia University before earning his spot in the U.S. Open.
