The New York Mets completed a three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins with a dramatic 15-14 victory Wednesday at loanDepot park. The win secured a crucial series sweep for the Mets before they head to the Bronx for the Subway Series against the Yankees.
The Mets built an early 8-0 lead against Marlins starter Janson Junk after three innings. A.J. Ewing and Brett Baty each drove in runs in the second inning, followed by a Luis Torrens two-run double and an RBI single from Bo Bichette. Carson Benge added an RBI groundout to cap the six-run second. Christopher Morel extended the lead in the third with a two-run homer.
Marlins starter Robert Stock pitched four innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Miami began its rally in the fourth inning, scoring three runs against Stock, with Joe Mack delivering a two-run single. The Marlins then erased most of the deficit in the sixth, scoring five runs against Chris Devenski to tie the game at 8-8. Owen Caissie hit a leadoff homer to start the sixth-inning surge.
Mets interim manager Andy Green's team responded in the seventh, scoring six runs to take an 11-8 lead. Ewing, Morel, and Torrens each contributed an RBI before Francisco Lindor hit a go-ahead three-run homer. The Marlins, however, erased most of that lead over their next three at-bats.
Tobias Myers entered the game in the ninth inning after the Marlins had scored three runs and managed to secure the final two outs to seal the win. The Mets have now won four consecutive games and six of their last seven, with three straight series victories. Under Green, who replaced Carlos Mendoza on June 26, the team holds a 34-31 record.
The series sweep marks a significant turnaround for the Marlins, who entered the week clinging to National League wild-card hopes. With these losses, they now trail the final wild-card spot by 6 1/2 games. This series defeat comes after the Marlins swept the Mets in Miami during Memorial Day weekend.
