Mets announcer Gary Cohen voiced his exasperation with what he described as "overkill" surrounding the Boston Red Sox's recent travel disruptions. The Red Sox faced significant delays on their journey to New York for a series against the Mets, leading to a postponement of the Friday night game.

The team was originally scheduled to fly to New York on Thursday night after a game in Chicago. However, they experienced a six-hour delay on the tarmac before returning to their hotel around 2 a.m. The following day, another delay occurred due to a cockpit light bulb issue, ultimately preventing the team from departing until the afternoon. This series of events meant the Red Sox did not arrive at Citi Field until after 5 p.m. on Friday, pushing the scheduled game back by 36 minutes.

During the broadcast, Cohen stated on SNY, "I have to say, if I hear one more person talk about Red Sox difficult travel, I might just have to expire." He added, "I mean, come on! Has anybody ever seen minor league travel? The overkill on this story is just unbelievable. Come on, folks. Let’s get a grip. We’re traveling on charter flights. They slept in a nice hotel in Chicago the night before."

Despite the travel complications, the Red Sox appeared unfazed. They went on to win the series opener 6-2 on Friday and subsequently swept the Mets, improving their record.

The Red Sox are currently 15-5 in their last 20 games and are positioned just half a game back in the American League wild-card race.
