Lionel Messi extended his scoring streak to seven consecutive World Cup games in Argentina's 3-1 win against Jordan on Saturday night, a victory that completed the defending champions' sweep of the group stage. Giovani Lo Celso opened the scoring for Argentina in the 19th minute with a direct free kick, marking the first time a player other than Messi has scored for the team in the current tournament.

Messi himself entered the match in the second half and added to his tally in the 80th minute, bringing his World Cup career total to 19 goals. He currently leads the tournament with six goals. Prior to this match, Messi had scored all five of Argentina's goals in their previous two victories against Algeria and Austria, including a hat trick and a record-setting performance.

Lautaro Martinez doubled Argentina's lead in the 31st minute with a penalty kick. Martinez and goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez were the only players to start all three of Argentina's group matches.

Argentina concluded the group stage with a perfect record, winning all three games. This marks the fifth time in their history that Argentina has won every match in the group stage, and the first time since the 2010 and 2014 tournaments. Their current unbeaten run in World Cup games extends to nine matches, with seven wins and two draws.

Jordan, ranked 72nd in the world, lost all three of their matches in their debut World Cup appearance, being outscored 8-3. Mousa Altamari scored Jordan's lone goal in the 55th minute.

Lo Celso and Martinez both netted their first World Cup goals in this match. The victory sets up a round of 32 clash against Cape Verde on Friday in Miami. Argentina, along with France and Mexico, were the only teams in the expanded 48-team World Cup to achieve maximum points in the group stage.
