Formula One champion Max Verstappen recently demonstrated his hoverboarding abilities while on holiday in Sardinia. He was accompanied by his long-term partner, Kelly Piquet, aboard a luxury yacht.

The couple, who have been together since 2020, are taking advantage of the break before the Formula One season resumes in August. Verstappen, 28, was seen on the water wearing a lifejacket and helmet, while Piquet, 37, remained on the yacht.

This holiday period comes amid ongoing reports that McLaren has initiated preliminary discussions regarding a potential partnership between Verstappen and Lando Norris. If these negotiations were to be successful, it is understood that Oscar Piastri, Norris's current teammate, might swap places with Verstappen, possibly as early as next year.

Verstappen's future has been a topic of discussion, particularly as Red Bull's performance has seen a dip since their championship successes between 2021 and 2024. Despite a contract with Red Bull extending until the end of 2028, certain clauses reportedly allow for an earlier departure. Max has been considering his future for some time, with Red Bull's form having dropped off since their title-winning exploits between 2021 and 2024

When questioned about his future at the Belgian Grand Prix last month, Verstappen offered brief responses, stating there was "nothing to say" when asked for updates. He declined to definitively confirm his team for the upcoming season, emphasizing that he would share any significant news himself. Asked if he had an update on his future, Verstappen replied: 'No'

Verstappen indicated that his focus remains on assisting Red Bull in improving its performance under the current regulations. He also mentioned personal events, such as his sister's wedding, as reasons for his current focus. "No, I'm just busy trying to make sure we take the right steps here," Verstappen said regarding his future. "Outside of that, I had my sister's wedding as well, so everything will come naturally. That's always been the case."

Reports suggest McLaren is optimistic about securing Verstappen, whose current annual salary at Red Bull is estimated to be around £80 million. A source indicated that while a move might align with 2028, it could potentially occur sooner. "It is an idea McLaren are keen on," confirmed one source. "If it comes off it may be in 2028, but it could even be earlier."
