Matt Beaty, a World Series champion with the Los Angeles Dodgers, has announced his retirement from professional baseball at the age of 33.
Beaty, who last appeared in a major league game on September 6, 2023, with the Kansas City Royals, shared his decision in a statement on Instagram.
"I believe it's time to finally officially announce that I'm entering the next chapter of my life," Beaty wrote. "It's been almost two years since my last at-bat in baseball. The time since then has been filled with questions and back-and-forth."
He added that he believes his final game was likely his last, though he had held onto hope for a return. Beaty thanked fans of the teams he played for, including the Dodgers, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, and Kansas City Royals.
Beaty was a 12th-round selection by the Dodgers in the 2015 MLB Draft and made his major league debut in 2019. He was part of the Dodgers team that won the 2020 World Series.
His last professional baseball activity came in 2024, playing for the Reno Aces and the Amarillo Sod Poodles, minor league affiliates of the Arizona Diamondbacks at the Triple-A and Double-A levels, respectively.
In his MLB career, Beaty played in 290 games across 675 plate appearances, accumulating a .247 batting average, .323 on-base percentage, and .394 slugging percentage. He recorded 18 home runs and 96 RBIs.
Beaty also revealed an opportunity to coach with the Kansas City Royals' rookie ball team, an experience that has reminded him of the game's impact on his life. "Sharing my experiences and being someone these young players can talk to has reminded me how much this game has given me," he stated.
