Former NBA champion Matt Barnes recently commented on the Los Angeles Lakers' offseason roster overhaul, jokingly labeling the current team as the "whitest Laker team since the Minneapolis Lakers."

Barnes made the remarks during an interview with TMZ Sports. He noted the significant changes to the Lakers' lineup as the team prepares for the upcoming season. The team has focused on building around star player Luka Dončić, who was acquired in a move that also involved signing and trading for big man Walker Kessler to a four-year, $130 million extension. Dončić's backcourt partner, Austin Reaves, also received a four-year, $185 million maximum contract, including a player option for the final year.

The Lakers have also added several other players to the roster, including Quentin Grimes, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Collin Sexton, Ziaire Williams, and Matisse Thybulle, aiming to build a strong supporting cast around Dončić.

"They’re trying to build around him," Barnes said of the Lakers' front office. "The Lakers, whether they’re up or down, when they’re down, they don’t stay down long. So, it’s going to be interesting to see what this season looks like."

Barnes expressed that while he was joking about the roster's composition, he also praised the team's efforts in strengthening their lineup around Dončić and Reaves, who he considers two of the best scoring guards in the league.
