Mason Greenwood is on the verge of a £36 million transfer to Turkish club Fenerbahce from French side Marseille. Manchester United, Greenwood's former club, is expected to receive a portion of the transfer fee.

Greenwood joined Marseille for £30 million two years ago, after leaving Manchester United following charges of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior in October 2022. The charges were dropped in February 2023 when key witnesses withdrew, and Greenwood has denied any wrongdoing.

During his time in France, under manager Roberto De Zerbi, Greenwood scored 48 goals in 81 games across two seasons. His move to Fenerbahce represents a significant transfer fee for the player.

Manchester United are due an undisclosed sell-on fee, which French sources indicate could be around £10.2 million. The club last saw Greenwood play in January 2022, shortly before the allegations surfaced.

Fenerbahce, often a runner-up to Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig, hopes that new signings like Greenwood will help them secure their first league title since 2014.

The Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges against Greenwood after key witnesses withdrew. Manchester United conducted its own internal investigation but ultimately decided he would resume his career away from the club. He spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Getafe in Spain.

Manchester United had initially considered reintegrating Greenwood before reversing the decision due to significant public backlash. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a partial owner of Manchester United, had previously suggested that the door was not entirely closed for Greenwood's return, emphasizing the need for fair decisions based on club values when dealing with young players who may lack guidance.

Greenwood, now 24, made 129 appearances for Manchester United after coming through their academy, scoring 35 goals. He also earned one senior cap for the England national team.
