Manchester United has finalized the free signing of goalkeeper Karl Darlow, marking their second acquisition of the summer. The club announced on July 14, 2026, that Darlow has agreed to a contract that runs through June 2028, with an option for an additional year.

Darlow joins United after his contract with Leeds United expired at the end of last season. The 35-year-old Welsh international brings extensive experience, having previously played for Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, and Hull City. He has made over 279 career appearances, including 74 in the Premier League.

Darlow's arrival follows the recent confirmation of Manchester United's £50 million signing of Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea. Within the goalkeeping department, Darlow is expected to provide backup and competition for the first-choice keeper, Senne Lammens. Veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton has also signed a one-year contract extension, completing the goalkeeping trio.

The addition of Darlow signals a likely departure for Altay Bayindir, who has served as the secondary goalkeeper behind Lammens and Andre Onana. Onana has reportedly agreed to a new loan deal with Trabzonspor, allowing him to play for the Turkish club for a second season.

'I am extremely proud to sign for Manchester United,' Darlow stated. 'I'm joining an excellent group of goalkeepers and I'm really looking forward to all pushing each other to ensure that we maintain the highest standards, which this club demands.' He added, 'This is a really special opportunity; everyone can see what an exciting time it is for the club and I cannot wait to play my part in supporting my teammates and helping to drive the group forwards.'

Jason Wilcox, Manchester United's director of football, commented on the signing: 'Karl has proven his ability to perform at the highest level, his work ethic and determined personality make him a really strong addition to our squad. We are delighted to add a player of his quality and experience to our excellent goalkeeping group.'
