Manchester United has announced its largest-ever sleeve sponsorship agreement with financial technology company SumUp. This multi-year partnership sees SumUp replace DXC Technology on the team’s shirts and comes just weeks after the club finalized a record-breaking £20 million-a-year training kit sponsorship with Betway.
The club had been without a sleeve sponsor for the initial three games of the season, against Hull, Ipswich, and Everton. The new deal ensures the SumUp logo will be featured on the playing shirts for the men's, women's, and academy teams across all competitions.
Insiders at Old Trafford suggest the new sponsorship will enable the club to invest sustainably and support its primary objective of winning major trophies. With all primary sponsorship assets now secured, the club is preparing to return to Champions League action.
Marc Armstrong, Manchester United’s chief business officer, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that SumUp is a rapidly growing global business. He believes the agreement aligns with the club's commercial growth strategy and highlights Manchester United's appeal to ambitious brands seeking global reach. Armstrong looks forward to collaborating with SumUp to connect them with the club's worldwide fanbase.
As part of the agreement, Manchester United and SumUp plan to launch a co-branded payment card. This card is expected to offer fans exclusive offers and rewards when used at official club outlets and with businesses across the UK.
Luke Griffiths, SumUp’s chief commercial officer and UK chief executive, commented on the significance of partnering with one of the world's most iconic clubs. He noted the club's growing fanbase across generations and borders, making the partnership a natural fit for SumUp. Griffiths emphasized that football is about shared moments, from watching matches to supporting the team, and that SumUp plays a role in the everyday moments that bring people together.
Through this collaboration, SumUp aims to connect with Manchester United fans, introduce more people to its services, and create rewarding experiences for supporters. The company intends to bring the energy and spirit of the club to fans globally.
