Manchester United has initiated discussions with representatives of French midfielder Manu Kone, with the club aiming to secure a third midfield signing of the summer. Kone, currently playing for Roma, is reportedly eager for a move to England. The 25-year-old made five appearances during the recent World Cup.
United has been actively evaluating midfield targets this month, seeking to inject more energy into the team's central play. Former France international Patrick Vieira praised Kone's abilities, noting his strong performance in Serie A with Roma. Vieira highlighted Kone's mobility, ball-winning capabilities, and technical skill, stating he is "the best midfielder in France."
Previous reports indicated that Atletico Madrid and Arsenal had also engaged in conversations with Kone's representatives. Manchester United has already bolstered its midfield this summer with the acquisitions of Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £48 million and Youri Tielemans for £35 million from Aston Villa. The club is prioritizing a third midfield addition, though financial considerations will be crucial in finalizing any deal.
The club had previously agreed on a deal for Brazil international Ederson, but concerns over his medical led them to abandon the transfer. Ederson has since signed a new contract with Atalanta. Separately, Manchester United player Manuel Ugarte is facing a significant period on the sidelines after undergoing surgery for a knee ligament injury sustained during the World Cup.
