Manchester City has initiated discussions with Liverpool regarding the potential transfer of forward Cody Gakpo.

The Netherlands international's future is a significant talking point with only three days remaining in the transfer window. Both City and Tottenham Hotspur have shown concrete interest in the 27-year-old attacker, though sources suggest Gakpo favors a move to City if he is to depart Anfield before Tuesday's deadline.

Formal contact between Manchester City and Liverpool was made on Saturday evening. Gakpo's potential exit follows Liverpool's agreement to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal that could reach up to £123 million. However, Liverpool reportedly aims to secure another forward before authorizing Gakpo's departure this summer.

The Anfield club has expressed interest in Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr. Gakpo joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 and has scored 33 goals in 91 Premier League appearances.

Most recently, Gakpo provided an assist for Alexander Isak's goal in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday. He also scored in the previous week's draw against Newcastle.
