Luke Littler successfully defended his World Matchplay title on Sunday, defeating Gerwyn Price 18-9 in Blackpool and establishing new tournament and final average records.

Littler, 19, concluded the week with an overall tournament average of 111.04, surpassing Phil Taylor's 2010 record of 106.31. In the final itself, Littler achieved an average of 111.53, breaking Taylor's 2013 record of 111.23 set against Adrian Lewis. He becomes only the third player in history to win back-to-back World Matchplay titles.

"It's been a crazy week, one of the best weeks of my life with the darts I've played," Littler told Sky Sports. "It's been tough, the stats may look like it's easy but when you're on this stage with how hit it is, it's not easy."

With this victory, Littler secured £225,000 in prize money, bringing his total earnings on the PDC's order of merit to £3,143,500. This places him significantly ahead of Luke Humphries, who is second with £2.13 million less.

Gerwyn Price, the seventh seed, also delivered a strong performance, averaging 104.97 in the final. His week's play has seen him climb to fourth in the order of merit and reclaim the Welsh number one ranking from Jonny Clayton.
