Liverpool has finalized the signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported fee of £123 million. The 23-year-old winger has agreed to a five-year contract with the English club.
Barcola expressed his pride and happiness at joining Liverpool. "It's a great pride to be able to play for Liverpool. I'm very happy," he stated. "It took a long time but I'm really happy today to be able to play for Liverpool and all I want is to be on the pitch and be able to play."
He outlined his ambitions with the club, saying, "I hope to achieve very big things. First of all, winning the Premier League – it's one of my biggest dreams in my life." Barcola also indicated his long-term commitment to the team, noting the length of his contract. "It is to do that and to stay in this team in the long term – that's why I signed a long contract – and I hope I can do it."
Reflecting on his decision, Barcola mentioned the atmosphere at Liverpool's home ground. "I had the chance to play twice in this stadium [Anfield] and I saw the atmosphere and how the fans were behind the Liverpool players. When I knew about Liverpool's interest in me, I didn't ask questions and I knew it was a very big club for me."
Barcola had been a primary transfer target for Liverpool for several months, sought as a replacement for Mohamed Salah, who recently moved to Trabzonspor. The club had previously seen a bid rejected for another target, Yan Diomande, who subsequently joined Real Madrid.
Negotiations for Barcola were reportedly led by Liverpool's sporting director, Richard Hughes, and Fenway Sports Group president, Mike Gordon. The club reportedly made a breakthrough in negotiations with PSG last week, following several weeks of discussions aimed at reducing the initial valuation of £145 million.
Barcola, who came through the academy at Lyon, spent his last three seasons with PSG, where he won two Champions League titles and three Ligue 1 titles. He represented France in the recent World Cup, scoring against England in the third-place playoff. During his time at PSG, he scored 39 goals in 152 appearances.
This transfer is seen as a significant boost for new Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, whose tenure began with two consecutive 2-2 draws against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. Barcola is one of several major summer additions to the Liverpool squad, alongside Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz, who were signed for £55 million and £34.5 million respectively.
