Lip readers believe they have uncovered the details of a viral video that showed a South African couple appearing to argue during a World Cup match. The video, which gained traction on social media platforms like TikTok and X, depicted the pair waving flags before engaging in a tense exchange.
Expert lip reader Nicola Hickling, working with Covers, analyzed the footage. According to Hickling, the disagreement began when the woman accidentally struck a young boy next to them with her flag. After she apologized and moved the flag, she noticed her partner was looking at his phone, and he subsequently showed her what was on it.
The lip reader suggests the man said, "There is nothing to see. The lads took pictures and sent them." The woman then questioned, "Why are you looking?" to which the man replied, "I'm not looking at other women."
The exchange continued, with the man stating, "Maybe this is why [I] don't mention things," before the woman responded, "That's enough." The man then reportedly said, "Shut up," and the woman replied, "I am sick of you always arguing."
The video prompted widespread speculation online, with users on X offering various theories about the cause of the argument. Some comments humorously questioned divorce proceedings, while others speculated about infidelity or the man's potential dissatisfaction with the situation impacting his enjoyment of the match. A number of viewers also commented on the camera operator's persistence in filming the couple.
