The New York Liberty suffered a 106-92 defeat to the Indiana Fever on Tuesday, struggling to contain the potent guard combination of Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell. The loss mirrored a previous 20-point blowout in Indianapolis less than four weeks ago, a defeat that had prompted a players-only meeting and led to a renewed sense of confidence for the Liberty.
Following that earlier loss, New York had reeled off a 7-1 record with a new starting lineup, including Rebecca Allen. However, Tuesday's game saw the Liberty defense falter, allowing the Fever's backcourt to dominate. Mitchell led the charge, scoring 20 of her game-high 28 points in the first half, while Clark contributed 22 points and 10 assists. The duo was particularly effective from beyond the arc, shooting 8-for-12 combined.
Aliyah Boston also added 19 points and seven rebounds for the Fever. The Liberty's defensive efforts were described as sluggish and disconnected, with slow close-outs that offered little resistance. This performance was further highlighted by the continued absences of Leonie Fiebich and Satou Sabally, both sidelined for over a month with no return timeline.
The first half saw the Liberty surrender 64 points, the third-highest total allowed in any half in franchise history. Indiana shot an efficient 59.5 percent from the field overall in the first two quarters, including an impressive 78.6 percent from three-point range.
Despite a strong start to the third quarter where the Liberty went on an 11-2 run to narrow the deficit to nine points, Indiana responded with a decisive 19-8 run to close out the period, effectively sealing the victory. The Liberty were unable to mount another significant comeback.
