LeRoy Irvin, a standout cornerback for the Los Angeles Rams and a two-time Pro Bowl selection, has died at the age of 68. His death was announced by former Rams teammate Eric Dickerson via Instagram.
Irvin played for the Rams for 10 seasons during the 1980s, earning Pro Bowl honors in 1985 and 1986. He concluded his NFL career with the Detroit Lions in 1990.
Dickerson, a Hall of Famer who played alongside Irvin for five years, shared his grief on social media. "Devastated to hear about the passing of my brother, teammate, and Rams legend Leroy Irvin," Dickerson posted. "Leroy wasn’t just a lockdown corner and a fierce competitor on the field; he was a true friend and a great man who always brought incredible energy."
He added, "Rest in peace, my brother. Sending my thoughts and prayers to the Irvin family and all of Rams Nation."
Fans responded to Dickerson's announcement, with many recalling Irvin's contributions to the Rams' "Darkside Defense" in the 1986 season. Other former NFL players, including Terrell Owens, also offered condolences.
A cause of death for Irvin has not yet been disclosed.
