Leeds United have reached an agreement with Borussia Mönchengladbach for the transfer of Swiss defender Nico Elvedi, with the deal valued at an initial £6.8 million, potentially rising to £8.5 million with add-ons. The 29-year-old is scheduled to travel to England for a medical examination on Monday.
Elvedi is expected to conclude an 11-year tenure with the German club upon completion of the move to Elland Road. A versatile international, he has accumulated 73 caps for Switzerland and was part of the national squad at the recent World Cup.
Following a pre-season victory, Leeds manager Daniel Farke commented on the potential transfer, stating that while he refrains from discussing new players until all formalities are completed, he anticipates developments within the next 48 hours. The club is reportedly waiting for Elvedi to pass his medical and finalize all paperwork before officially announcing the signing.
This potential acquisition could facilitate the departure of fringe defender Sebastiaan Bornauw, who may join Hamburg on an initial loan with an option to purchase.
Leeds United is preparing to begin their Premier League season away at Nottingham Forest next Saturday.
