LeBron James has fueled speculation about a potential move to the Golden State Warriors after announcing his departure from the Los Angeles Lakers. The NBA superstar informed the Lakers on Monday that he will be leaving the team this summer.

Hours before the official announcement, a clip from James' podcast, “Mind The Game,” featuring guest Stephen Curry, was released. In the segment, James discussed his positive experience playing alongside Curry during the 2024 Summer Olympics.

"It was one of the best experiences. It was perfect," James said on the podcast about playing with Curry. He added that Curry was the first person he texted when assembling the U.S. Olympic team. Curry responded, "Goodwillings. I’m good injury-wise, that’s the plan." James stated, "Say no more."

James and Curry teamed up for the U.S. men's basketball team during the 2024 Olympics, leading the team to a gold medal. James, who was named the team's MVP, averaged 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists. Curry, who made his Olympic debut in 2024, contributed 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. Curry was particularly effective in the final two games, making 16 of 26 three-pointers and shooting 47.8% from beyond the arc for the tournament.

James, 41, and Curry, 38, are both nearing the end of their storied careers. Both players have won four NBA championships and are reportedly seeking another title before retiring. Rumors have circulated throughout the offseason suggesting the Warriors are interested in acquiring the veteran forward. James is leaving the Lakers after eight seasons with the team, marking the first time in his career he has changed teams multiple times.
