LaVar Ball, father of NBA player LaMelo Ball, has stated that the Minnesota Timberwolves need to acquire his other two sons, Lonzo and LiAngelo Ball, to secure a championship. The Timberwolves recently traded for LaMelo Ball.
"Man, listen. The Minnesota Timberwolves, they did the right thing by getting LaMelo. That’s a start," LaVar Ball said in a social media video. "But to guarantee a championship? You gotta get all three of them Ball boys on the team."
LaMelo Ball was traded to the Timberwolves from the Charlotte Hornets in a deal that also sent Josh Green to Minnesota. The Timberwolves acquired Ball along with draft compensation, including a 2033 unprotected first-round pick, three first-round pick swaps, and three second-round picks. The trade occurred amid reports of frustration from Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards.
"Together, you can’t beat ’em," LaVar Ball continued. "You got LaMelo already — he’s a dog. You can get Lonzo damn near for nothing. You can get Gelo damn near for nothing. Whenever them Ball boys together… [they] can’t lose. It’s a wrap. Championship guaranteed."
LaVar Ball has long advocated for his sons to play together. Lonzo Ball has been sidelined by injuries since 2022 and has had limited play with the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers in recent years. LiAngelo Ball has had a brief stint in the G-League with the Lakers.
LaVar Ball has recently undergone part of a right leg amputation in 2025 and publicly disclosed that his wife left him after 30 years of marriage. He was seen wearing a Big Baller Brand t-shirt in the video discussing the Timberwolves.
