Lauren Hemp, the 26-year-old forward for Manchester City, has already achieved significant milestones in her career, solidifying her status as a club legend. Since joining from Bristol City in 2018 as a teenager, Hemp has grown with the team, coinciding with a highly successful period for the Lionesses, including back-to-back European titles in which she played a crucial role.
Her commitment to Manchester City was rewarded with a three-year contract extension in 2024, the same year she was awarded an MBE for services to football. Last season, her contributions were instrumental in the club securing their first Women's Super League (WSL) title in a decade, alongside a Women's FA Cup victory.
Jayne Comer, secretary for the Manchester City supporters club, described Hemp as "absolutely loved" by the fanbase. "She remained fiercely loyal to the club, when, let's face it, she could have signed for any team in the world," Comer told BBC Sport. "The fact she stayed and gives her all every week means so much to us. We've had the privilege of watching one of the best players in the world."
Comer, a season ticket holder for over a decade, noted Hemp's consistent impact on match days. "Every week she gets us all on our feet. When she gets the ball, it's exciting. You always feel like something spectacular might happen." She further regarded Hemp as "one of the greatest players we've ever had," emphasizing her consistent performance and passion for the game. "She is always one of the first names on the teamsheet for any manager and looks like somebody who loves to play football."
Recalling Hemp's early talent, Comer added, "Even back then, you could see what a talent she was. She just oozed potential. I was really excited to see how she would progress and I have not been disappointed." Manchester City is scheduled to visit Aston Villa in the WSL on Sunday.
