The Las Vegas Aces announced Tuesday they have waived guard Chennedy Carter, continuing a pattern of frequent team changes early in her WNBA career.
Carter, a first-round pick in the 2020 WNBA draft, has played for four teams since entering the league. She joined the Aces this season and played in 13 games. Her tenure with the team saw an initial strong performance in May, where she averaged 17.5 points per game while shooting 65.1 percent from the field over eight games. However, her production declined significantly in subsequent games. In the five games prior to her waiving, she averaged just 3.8 points per game on 35.3 percent shooting.
Carter also experienced several absences this season, missing the first three games of June due to a leg injury. Upon her return, her playing time was limited, and she subsequently missed another five games with an illness. Despite these absences and Carter's reduced role, the Aces have maintained a strong record, going 10-3 since June 1 and holding the fourth-highest offensive rating in the WNBA.
Carter's career has been marked by both flashes of talent and off-court issues. In her rookie season with the Atlanta Dream in 2020, she averaged 17.4 points per game. The following season, she played in only 11 games due to an elbow injury and was suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. She was traded to the Los Angeles Sparks before the 2022 season, where she started two games and was benched for poor conduct. In 2024, she played for the Chicago Sky, averaging a career-high 17.5 points per game, but also committed a league-leading four flagrant fouls, including a notable incident where she was called for a Flagrant 1 foul on then-rookie Caitlin Clark. The Sky moved on from Carter after that season.
After going unsigned in 2025, Carter joined the Aces in an attempt to revitalize her career. Her recent waiving by the Aces means she will now seek her fifth team in six professional seasons.
