La Liga officials are scheduled to inspect Celta Vigo's Estadio de Balaidos within the next 24 hours due to a suspected fungus outbreak that has damaged the playing surface. The league's assessment will determine if Sunday night's opening match of the 2026-27 season against Osasuna can proceed as planned.

Reports in Spain indicate that Celta Vigo has requested a postponement of the fixture, while their opponents, Osasuna, are reportedly amenable to playing the match at the scheduled time. The kick-off is set for 20:30 BST.

The Estadio de Balaidos, a 24,870-capacity stadium located in Vigo, has been undergoing renovation work for over a decade. It is slated to be one of the 11 Spanish venues used for the 2030 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Following the completion of the renovations, the stadium's capacity is expected to increase to between 40,000 and 44,000.

Celta Vigo had previously opted not to postpone the match despite striker Borja Iglesias's participation in the World Cup final with Spain. This decision contrasts with three other La Liga fixtures scheduled for the opening weekend—Valencia v Real Betis, Real Madrid v Real Sociedad, and Barcelona v Athletic Club—which were rescheduled to later in the month to accommodate players involved in the World Cup final.
