Kevin Pietersen has rejoined the England cricket setup as a specialist mentor for the white-ball teams, focusing on the preparations for next year's World Cup. The 46-year-old, a T20 World Cup winner in 2010, will begin his consultancy role next week, supporting head coach Brendon McCullum.
Pietersen's involvement will initially cover the upcoming T20 and ODI series against Sri Lanka, which marks the end of the English summer. He is also scheduled to participate in winter white-ball tours to Australia and South Africa. His role will extend to next summer's series against Pakistan and New Zealand, serving as further preparation for the 50-over World Cup to be held in southern Africa next autumn.
Regular coaching staff members Marcus Trescothick, Tim Southee, Jeetan Patel, and Sarah Taylor will continue in their existing positions. Pietersen expressed his honor at donning the England uniform again for the first time since 2014. "We have an incredibly talented white-ball squad, and I am excited to get in the trenches and work relentlessly hard with these players to maximise their potential," Pietersen stated. "To be a part of Brendon’s think tank over the next 12 months is a fantastic opportunity, and I cannot wait to get started."
This appointment follows a similar consultancy role Pietersen held with the Delhi franchise in the Indian Premier League last year. Delhi finished fifth in the standings, but Pietersen did not return for the 2026 season due to a busy schedule.
