Kazuyoshi Miura, recognized as the world's oldest professional footballer, scored his first competitive goal in almost four years on Saturday for Japanese third-tier side Fukushima United. The 59-year-old forward scored in the 52nd minute of Fukushima's Emperor's Cup match against Iwaki Furukawa, contributing to a 7-0 victory.
This goal marks Miura's first since November 2022, when he scored for Suzuka PG, now known as Atletico Suzuka. Affectionately known as 'King Kazu' in Japan, Miura has been a prominent figure in Japanese sports since the J League's inception in 1993. His career began in 1986 with Brazilian club Santos, and he has since played in Italy, Croatia, and Australia.
Miura's loan spell at Fukushima United has been extended, keeping him with the club until June 2027. He originally joined J2 League side Yokohama FC in 2005 but has not featured for them since 2020. Miura has represented Japan in 89 matches, scoring 55 goals, and has previously expressed his ambition to continue playing into his sixties.
