British tennis player Katie Boulter has shared the personal reason behind her intimate wedding ceremony with Alex de Minaur, which took place on the same day as the Wimbledon Men's Final. The timing of the wedding, held at a church in Leicestershire, had previously raised questions among some fans.
Boulter explained that the couple opted for a smaller, earlier ceremony to ensure her grandfather, who has dementia, could attend. Despite initial family concerns about his health, he was able to be present on the day.
"He told everyone at his care home that it was 'wedding day'. That literally made me cry my eyes out," Boulter told Vogue magazine. Due to mobility issues, her grandfather waited at the altar to hand her over to de Minaur, a moment Boulter described as one she will cherish forever.
Following the ceremony, the couple traveled to Tuscany, Italy, for a three-day celebration with family and friends. Boulter has officially adopted her husband's surname, referring to wedding photos as "Mr and Mrs de Minaur."
