Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero exited Tuesday night's All-Star Game in the top of the third inning after being hit on the left hand by a pitch from Cardinals right-hander Riley O’Brien.
Caminero fell to the ground in pain immediately after the pitch, with his helmet also coming off. He remained down for a short period before getting up and walking off the field under his own power. Miguel Vargas of the White Sox entered the game to pinch-run for Caminero at first base.
Initial X-rays on Caminero's hand came back negative, according to reports on Fox. Caminero, 23, has been a key offensive contributor for the Rays this season, helping them lead the AL East with a 56-38 record. He has hit 28 home runs and posted a .927 OPS in 94 games. He also participated in the Home Run Derby on Monday night, where he was eliminated in the semifinals by eventual winner Jordan Walker.
