Heavyweight boxer Joseph Parker has been cleared of doping violations after a UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) investigation concluded his positive test was a result of exposure to cocaine used by his nutritionist. The ruling lifts the provisional suspension that had been in place since March.
Parker, 34, tested positive for the cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine following his fight against Fabio Wardley in October 2025. The Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) conducted the test. Parker maintained he had not knowingly ingested the substance.
Investigation Findings
UKAD's investigation determined that Parker provided sufficient evidence to support his claim that the adverse analytical finding stemmed from passive exposure to cocaine. According to UKAD, the nutritionist employed by Parker stated he was a regular cocaine user and had consumed the drug daily in the week leading up to the bout.
UKAD's ruling, issued in June, found that the ingestion of the substance occurred out of competition and was "in a context unrelated to sport performance." This finding allowed for the provisional suspension to be lifted.
Parker himself expressed his relief on social media, stating, "I'm pleased to confirm my provisional suspension is lifted and I'll be back in the ring soon." He added that he had been advised to refrain from further comment while details were finalized and thanked his supporters.
Career and Future Fights
Parker has been a prominent figure in the heavyweight division for the past decade. He held the WBO world title in 2016 before losing it to Anthony Joshua in 2018. His professional record stands at 36 wins and four defeats.
Parker's manager, David Higgins, indicated that the boxer is eager to return to competition and could potentially fight twice before the end of the year. Higgins described Parker as "relieved and excited" by the investigation's outcome and believes the boxer is performing at the peak of his powers, noting that many heavyweights reach their prime in their thirties.
Parker is now free to resume his boxing career, with his management team considering options for his return to the ring, potentially including a tune-up fight followed by a major bout later in the year.
