World Series champion Joe Girardi and former All-Star outfielder Shane Victorino have been named managers for the upcoming Perfect Game All-American Classic. The game, set to feature many of the nation's top high school baseball players, will take place Aug. 16 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
Girardi, who has managed the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies, expressed his excitement about being part of the event. "It's a thrill for me to be around so much young talent," Girardi told Fox News Digital. He anticipates seeing future Major League Baseball stars among the participants.
Girardi plans to advise the young players to cherish their talent and dedicate themselves to daily improvement. "Don't waste your opportunity here. Really, really go after this and you will be rewarded," he stated.
Adding to the coaching roster are several former Major League Baseball players. The staff includes 1995 American League MVP Mo Vaughn, Hall of Fame pitcher Trevor Hoffman, and All-Star outfielder Ryan Klesko, among others. Members of the 1993 Phillies National League championship team and 2008 World Series champion Phillies will also be part of the coaching staff.
This year's event will hold special significance for Girardi, as he will coach alongside his son, Dante. "I also get to coach alongside my son, Dante, and that's really special for me," Girardi said, recalling past experiences with his son at Perfect Game events. "It's just really fond memories for me and it's going to create another great memory between my son and I."
The Perfect Game All-American Classic, which debuted in 2003, has a history of showcasing future MLB talent. Past participants include prominent players such as Bryce Harper, Gunnar Henderson, Bobby Witt Jr., Gerrit Cole, and Francisco Lindor.
