The New York Jets' training camp is set to truly begin Monday, marking the transition to full pads and full contact for the first time this summer. This shift follows an initial phase of lighter practices designed to ease players into the rigors of camp.
Head coach Aaron Glenn outlined the team's approach, which prioritizes player readiness for the regular season. "My job as a coach is to understand the acclimation from the NFL offseason into no pads, then into pads," Glenn said. "My job is to get our players ready for the regular season. We had two practices on, then we [brought] it down for recovery, then it jumps back up."
The initial days of camp, which began Wednesday, featured on-field work without pads. Players were given rest days, including Sunday, a strategic decision to manage their physical condition. The team is now preparing for the increased intensity that comes with full contact, generating anticipation for how the revamped defense will perform.
The hands-on approach from Glenn is intended to prepare the defense for the upcoming season, with Monday's practice signaling a significant ramp-up in activity and contact. The focus remains on long-term performance and ensuring players are properly conditioned and acclimated to the demands of professional football.
