The New York Jets' offensive line will face an immediate challenge in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans, as they prepare to block Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons. Simmons recorded 11 sacks last season, presenting a significant test for the Jets' rebuilt unit.
Last year, the Jets' offensive line was in flux, with a new center, a new right guard, and a rookie right tackle. The unit also dealt with a season-ending injury to Alijah Vera-Tucker just before the regular season began, turning their opener into an experimental trial.
However, the offensive line has since evolved. Four starters are returning, and newcomer Dylan Parham brings 63 career NFL starts to the group. Center Josh Myers expressed the unit's aspiration to be a strength for the team. "If you asked any one of us, that’s how we want it to be," Myers told The Post.
Myers acknowledged the difficulty of facing a player like Simmons. "He’s one of those guys that you just, you have to have great technique when you’re playing against him," Myers said. "Your set has to be great. Your hand placement has to be great. Your feet — everything. You have to, technique has to be really, really sound against a guy like that because, yeah, he’s incredible."
