David Bailey, the New York Jets' second overall draft pick in April, is making his mark in training camp, demonstrating the elite pass-rushing abilities that could help end the franchise's 15-year playoff drought. Bailey, 23, appears unburdened by the weight of Jets history, expressing a singular focus on changing the team's future.

Bailey, who grew up in Southern California and attended college in Northern California before transferring to West Texas, admitted he is not familiar with the team's storied past, including events like the "Mud Bowl" or the "Fake Spike." When asked about his goals for the upcoming 2026 season, he avoided specific individual achievements, instead highlighting a desire to alter the team's trajectory.

"I don’t really have any like particular goals," Bailey told The Post. "Honestly, bro, I wasn’t really too knowledgeable of this program and where it’s been in the past. Hearing that this team hasn’t been in the playoffs in such a long time with such elite people over here in the facility, and just great people over here, it doesn’t really sit right with me."

Bailey's approach suggests a fresh perspective as he integrates into the team, with his performance in training camp indicating he possesses the necessary skills to be a significant contributor in ending the long-standing playoff drought.
