Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice pursued and confronted a heckler who yelled at him during the American Century Championship golf tournament in Lake Tahoe last week. The incident occurred as Rice was at the tee, preparing to hit his ball.
Video from the event captured audio of someone calling Rice's name, followed by a shout of 'Fore!' immediately after his swing. Rice turned to address the crowd, calling out to the heckler before chasing them down. He was heard asking onlookers, 'Which one? Which one?' to identify the person who had shouted.
After confronting the fan, Rice returned to the tee box and received applause from the gallery. Social media reactions to the clip showed a mixed response. Some users praised Rice's actions, with one commenting, "Well one thing for sure, the heckler is NOT going to be outrunning Jerry Rice." Others suggested Rice should have ignored the taunting, with one user advising, "Jerry, Just relax. You ain’t that good. Ignore the crowd and play golf."
This is not the first time Rice has reacted strongly at the American Century Championship. Two years prior, he reportedly confronted a reporter and made threats after being asked about the Chiefs wide receiver corps. Security reportedly intervened during that previous incident.
