Oba Femi and Brock Lesnar are set to clash in a Hell in a Cell match at WWE SummerSlam in August, a bout WWE Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield described as a "generational matchup."
Femi and Lesnar have a recent history, with Femi defeating Lesnar at WrestleMania 42, leading to Lesnar's temporary retirement. However, Lesnar returned shortly after, defeating Femi at Clash in Italy. Their rivalry will culminate in a Hell in a Cell encounter at SummerSlam.
"I’ve never seen anything like Oba – well, I have. I’ve seen Brock," Layfield told Fox News Digital. "It’s very much the carbon copy of Brock coming in. Brock coming in was like, oh my God, who is this guy? The guy can even talk and he’s gonna be one of the biggest stars in wrestling."
Layfield drew parallels between Femi and Lesnar's arrivals in wrestling, noting both possessed a unique charisma and star potential. He highlighted Lesnar's successful careers in both professional wrestling and the UFC as a benchmark for the kind of impact he sees Femi having.
"This Oba Femi comes out with the silly little walk he does. Everyone kinda does it, it’s like The Bushwackers. But the whole arena does it," Layfield observed, referencing the crowd's engagement with Femi's signature mannerisms. "I was in Vegas and I didn’t want to go to the matches and deal with the traffic and deal with the backstage area and so I kinda just watched it in a sports bar, I stood in the back where nobody could recognize me, and as soon as Oba came out, the entire sports bar was sitting there doing that Oba Femi dance. The guy is just unbelievably over."
He further predicted that Femi's popularity could extend beyond WWE, suggesting that athletes in other sports, such as NFL running backs like Saquon Barkley or Derrick Henry, might adopt his signature dance. "Once one of them does, one of these great running backs or wide receivers, or somebody scores a touchdown, that’s when I think you’re gonna see entire arenas doing it. I just think Oba Femi is lightning in a bottle and Brock has always been that way. This is, to me, a generational matchup."
SummerSlam is scheduled to take place on August 1 and 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
