Jamie Carragher, a prominent Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool footballer, is reportedly facing bankruptcy proceedings due to an unpaid tax bill. HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) filed a petition against Carragher at the High Court in London on Wednesday, according to City AM and reported by the Daily Mail.
HMRC stated that it takes a supportive approach to customers with tax debts, offering solutions like installment plans, and only petitions for bankruptcy as a last resort. The agency, however, does not comment on individual cases.
Carragher, 38, has several directorships listed on Companies House and is a regular commentator for Sky Sports' Premier League coverage and for CBS Sports' Champions League broadcasts. He also contributes to The Overlap podcast.
Carragher enjoyed a distinguished playing career with Liverpool, making 737 appearances. He was part of the team that achieved a historic Champions League final comeback and is considered a club legend. He also earned 38 caps for England, participating in the 2004 European Championship and the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.
Beyond his broadcasting and media work, Carragher founded the 23 Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting young people in Merseyside, and co-founded Football For Change, an initiative aimed at combating child poverty through education, sport, and training.
